Sopore firing: IO extends last date to record statement

Inquiry Officer probing the killing of a youth in alleged security forces firing in north Kashmir's Baramulla district last week, has extended the last date for witnesses to depose before him by three more days till July 3.
District Magistrate, Baramulla, Farooq Ahmed Lone, who has been appointed Inquiry Officer into the killing of Arshad Ahmad Shah on June 23 in Sopore town, extended the last date for deposition before him till July 3, an official spokesman said.
Earlier, the IO had notified that any person having knowledge about the firing incident could depose before him from June 26 to June 30 in his office.

The government has constituted an inquiry committee comprising District Magistrate Baramulla to ascertain the factual position with respect to the causes and circumstances of the firing incident that took place in Krankshivan area of Sopore on June 23 leading to the death of Shah and injuries to four others.
Following the killing of the youth, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in the town as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order. The curfew was, however, lifted from the township on Saturday.
