Artworks of 45 South Korean artists along with those by 10 Indian artists, all based on experiences of women in the two countries, whose societies have been seen to be traditionally patriarchal are up for show here.
"Culture is the product of exchange which can be developed further," said director Korean Cultural Centre (KCC), Kim Kum-Pyong, who inaugurated the painting exhibition titled "Women Times" here recently.
Given the 2000-year old history of India-Korea relations, and in the light of increasing economic and political ties, the director said it would be mutually beneficial for both the countries to get to know each other's cultures.
The art show has been put up in collaboration with the Women Association for Korean Painting.
"The idea behind the theme, was to give women from both the countries a common platform to know each other's cultures as both of the groups have come from a traditionally patriarchal society," Kum Pyong said.
A wide array of mediums of art such as graphic art, oil paintings, acrylic paintings, murals and tile work are being showcased.
Artist Suchismita Sahoo, one of the participants feels that there are a lot of differences in the painting styles of both Indian and Korean artists.
"For instance, Korean artists tend to use softer shades of colour, whereas Indian artists use a lot of stronger and darker shades," Sahoo said.
