Satish Yadav, former state secretary of the party's Yuvajan Sabha, and a Zila Panchayat member, was expelled for six years from the party on allegations of land grabbing and other illegal activities, which were damaging party's image, district unit chief of SP, Khuman Singh Verma told reporters.
Verma said the decision was taken by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Akhilesh government has been facing stiff opposition from BSP, BJP and Congress, over alleged lawlessness in the state.
On Saturday, Satish and his associates had made a bid to take illegal possession of a house situated in the heart of the city, near Nagar Palika, Verma claimed.
SP had to rush to the site to control the situation and 10 persons were arrested of which some were booked in minor offences and were let off by the SDM, Sadar, he further claimed.
