Samajwadi Party MLA Nahid Hasan has sought an independent inquiry into the alleged firing incident here in which an eight-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet, saying that rival groups were conspiring against him.
The local MLA claimed that those belonging to rival camps were involved in the matter a day after he was booked along with his supporters for allegedly threatening mediapersons who had gone to cover the incident.
He said he was not present at the scene when the mediapersons had visited the area.
Hasan said that the Election Commission should share footage from its videography of the site where SP supporters allegedly started firing in the air on Sunday to celebrate their candidate's victory in local polls.
The MLA also claimed that the driver of the rickshaw the victim was travelling in cannot be traced.
"He (rickshaw-puller) should be interrogated about the incident," he said.
Asked about a show-cause notice to him from his party, Hasan, who convened a community panchayat over the firing issue, said he has not yet received any such notice. He said he was in touch with his party brass and has given his clarification to them.
The boy was killed in celebratory firing by SP workers in Shamli district, leading Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to order immediate removal of the area's SDM and Deputy SP.
Two crew members of a leading English news channel who went to the spot for coverage of the tragedy were allegedly attacked by Hasan and his aides.
