The MLA, his son Vijay Pratap were charged with hatching a conspiracy after which their supporters barged into a house in Bhandri village on October 9, 2015, during the zila panchayat elections and severely beat up Ramesh Chand, government counsel Mohd Arif said.
The incident took place in an area under Shikohabad police station.
The MLA had moved the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court after the local court summoned him and his son on September 12, 2017, he said.
The MLA after surrendering moved an interim bail application in the court of Additional Sessions Judge R P Singh. However, the plea was rejected and he was sent to jail, he said.
Yadav told reporters that he was being harassed at the behest of BJP leaders because of which he had surrendered in the court.
He said that since his son was unwell he could not appear in the court.
