Samajwadi party's Uttarakhand unit today said that Dimple Yadav, wife of UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, should be the face of the party in the state, for the next election.
SP state unit president Satyanarayanan Sachan said that a proposal has been sent in this regard to the central leadership.
The party core committee has already discussed the proposal and party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was serious about the matter, he said.
Dimple, MP from Kanauj, was born and brought up at Kodwal in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.
On being asked whether she was willing to come back to her home state, Sachan said she is ready to work for the party anywhere, as per the directions of the central leadership.
"We want Dimple to lead the party in Uttarakhand and bring it to power like in Uttar Pradesh," he said.
Samajwadi party had a strong hold in the state before it was separated from Uttar Pradesh in 2000. But they lost their support after being seen as opposing a separate state.
The party has not opened its account in the three assembly elections in Uttarakhand after it became a state.
The state will go to polls next year.
However, Sachan said that the party's acceptance was on the rise in the state.
"We have successfully made people understand that if SP is in power in both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, it will benefit citizens on all fronts," he added.
