Space Dept gets Rs 6000 crore in budget

The government has allocated Rs 6000 crore for the Department of Space in the Union Budget for 2015-16, with a major thrust on Launch Vehicle Technology projects.
With the emphasis on Launch Vehicle Technology projects, the government has allocated Rs 2148 crore for developments in this direction.
For Total Launch support, tracking the satellites, the government has allocated Rs 651 crore. For operations of the INSAT programmes that includes the GSAT and INSAT satellites, Rs 1281 crore has been allocated.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is expected to launch a heavy communication satellite, GSAT-15, with around 40 transponders - automatic receivers and transmitters for communication and broadcast of signals using the Ariane rocket of Arianespace from French Guiana. For this, Rs 165 crore have been allocated.

The Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Shriharikota, where a third launch pad is coming up for launching satellites, the government has allocated Rs 385 crore.
For the future projects like the Chandrayaan (moon Mission), Rs 40 crore have been allocated while for satellite Aditya- whose mission is to study the Sun-, the government has allocated Rs 20 crore.
Last year, the government had initially allocated Rs 6000 crore for the Department of Space, but later revised it to Rs 4500 crore.
