A special session of the BIMSTEC senior officials will be held here tomorrow to discuss the preparations for the 4th summit of the regional economic body later this month.
The meeting will be attended by the senior officers of all member states, including India.
The 4th summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on August 30 and 31.
The two day summit will see deliberations on vital affairs such as connectivity between the BIMSTEC nations including roads, airways and transmission lines, according to Nepal's foreign ministry officials.
Concrete steps will also be taken for poverty alleviation among the member countries, they said.
Formed in 1997, BIMSTEC is a regional economic bloc comprising seven member states lying in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal constituting a contiguous regional unity.
Its members include India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand. Nepal is the current chair of BIMSTEC.
