In a first initiative of its kind in the region, Shishu Sarothi is hosting the event to provide a unique platform on which children with disabilities will show their abilities in sports.
Shishu Sarothi, a non-government voluntary organisation working for persons with disabilities in the region since 1987, said the games would provide a huge boost to athletes with disabilities in the area to hone their sporting spirit.
Kamrup(Metro) district Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu and Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu were the chief guests at the inaugural ceremony where 350 athletes with disability along with 100 escorts, volunteers and sports officials from all the N-E seven states are participating.
The sporting event is being held under the union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Sarusujai Stadium here.
