Copper futures traded 0.09 per cent higher at Rs 442.55 per kg today as speculators enlarged positions amid rising spot demand coupled with positive global leads.

In futures trade, copper for delivery in June rose 40 paise, or 0.09 per cent, at Rs 447.50 per kg in a business turnover of 45 lots at the Multi Commodity Exchange.

Similarly, the metal for delivery for the current month edged up by 30 paise, or 0.07 per cent, at Rs 442.55 per kg in 1,954 lots.

Marketmen attributed the rise in copper prices at futures trade to pick-up in demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot markets, besides a firm trend in select base metals overseas.
