Founder of KIIT & KISS, Dr A Samanta felicitated Mallick at a special function in KIIT University yesterday, a KIIT release said today.
The 21-year old sprinter is studying MBA in School of Management of KIIT University. Amiya, who has broken 200 m State record of 45 years, will be trained by sprint legend Usain Bolt's coach Glen Mills in Jamaica, it said.
In September last, he had won the gold medal at the 53rd National Open Senior Athletics Championship in Ranchi clocking 21.22 seconds. After this stellar performance, the Odisha Olympic Association had contacted Glen Mills in Kingston, Jamaica to train him.
Mallick, who is presently ranked 32nd in the world, is set to travel to Jamaica in the next two weeks.
Expressing his satisfaction, Dr Samanta said, KIIT gives equal importance on education as well as sports. KIIT has also promoted sports stars like Dutee Chand (athletics), Aparajita Gochhikar (chess) and many others.
