While the girl, a B.Com student, was going with her father Rajesh Soni (40) to take an examination, the youth, Anshul Gupta (around 20 years of age and pursuing graduation in arts), followed them on a bike.
At Samjwadi-Indira Nagar here, Anshul had an altercation with Rajesh after which he fired at him and fled while abandoning his bike and the revolver.
The girl's father, who was bleeding profusely, was admitted to a government hospital where his condition was stable, city Superintendent of Police Kalyan Chakravati said.
A case has been registered against the accused with the Chatripura police, he said adding that a search was on to nab him.
