Sr Cong leader demands probe into free rice scheme impl'tation

: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha P Kannan today demanded a probe into the implementation of the free rice scheme in the union territory.
Speaking to reporters here he said the probe should cover the 'scandalous practices' adopted by the previous Congress regime and also during the present AINRC rule.
He claimed he had full details of the irregularities adopted by the previous Vaithilingam led Congress ministry in implementing the scheme and would furnish details if an enquiry is instituted.
Kannan also announced Rs 50 lakh from the MP Local Area Development Fund for flood relief work in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said he was sending a cheque in this regard to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
He lauded the the defence personnel for their excellent work in rescuing marooned people in the floods.
Kannan said he had also released funds to PWD for construction of toilets and supply of hygienic drinking water to students in schools and colleges from MPLAD.
