Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasingha's resignation is being seen as a direct fallout between between the two partners of the unity government, Sirisena's SLFP and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's UNP.
Dilrukshi was hand-picked by Wickremesinghe to be the Bribery Commission's Director-General in 2015.
Addressing a gathering here on October 12, Sirisena had accused the police's Financial Crime Division (FCID), Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption of "acting on a political agenda".
He said he was completely angered by the recent action by the Bribery Commission to summon to court former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa - brother of ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa - and three former military commanders over bribery allegations.
Meanwhile, another relative of Rajapaksa was arrested by the financial crimes unit this morning.
Thirukumar Nadesan, the husband of Rajapaksa's niece Nirupama was arrested over a property transaction involving Rajapaksas younger brother Basil, the powerful economic development minister under the former strongmans regime.
