The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), deployed in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district for anti-Naxal operations, will organise a 10-km-long run on December 20 in the memory of its martyred personnel.
To commemorate the sacrifices made by its jawans and officers while fighting terrorists and Naxals in different part of the country, the SSB's 28th battalion is organising the run, titled 'Ek Daud Shahidon Ke Naam', the battalion's deputy commandant, Ranjan Rai, told PTI.
So far 650 people, including 150 women, have registered to participate in the event which is open to all, he said.
"Such events strengthen the bond between the civilians and the security forces," Rai said.
The run will start from Kacche in Kanker's Antagarh region, where the battalion is stationed, and pass through a road surroundedby dense forest before concluding at Masbaras village.
Amateur wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, father of wrestling champions Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, will be the chief guest on the occasion, Rai said.
He said the event has been scheduled on December20, as it the raising day of SSB, which is one of the Central Armed Police Forces of the country.
The first, second and third position winners will get cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. All the participants who complete the run will get specially designed medals and certificates, Rai added.
