Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot Thursday announced that a stadium of international standard for differently abled persons will be set up in Meghalaya.
The stadium will be constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 200 crore, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment said at the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir, aids and assistive devices distribution camp, for the differently abled person.

He said that this was decided after Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma approached him with a proposal and also provided 50 acres of land for the same.
The Union minister informed that the detail project report (DPR) will be prepared very soon and that the stadium, which will be of international standard, should come up before National Games 2022.

Talking about the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir, aids and assistive devices distribution camp, the Union Minister said that it is biggest camp in the North East and the message is that the public should know about the scheme and get to see and know about the quality of products they are getting.
There are almost 7000 beneficiaries in Shillong and Tura in the two days camp, he said.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the idea of setting up a stadium started three to four months back when he had met the Union minister and discussed an array of issues and received good response and support.
