A rickshaw tour of tourist attractions in Old Delhi was launched today by two young entrepreneurs aiming to promote rich cultural heritage of the walled city.
The specially designed red-and-yellow rickshaws, launched in association with Heritage Haveli Dharampura, will take tourists on a three-hour-long ride to Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Kinari Bazar, Spice Street, Sheesh Gunj, Digambar Jain Naya Mandir among others.
The initiative by start-up firm Guava Trips, floated by Siddharth Goel and Keshav, has prepared six rickshaws to attract tourists, especially those from foreign countries.
"The idea of the tour is to provide Old Delhi's spellbinding aura, hint of royalty and cultural richness along with a comfortable ride. It will not just be a ride but an experience. The initiative is in collaboration with Dharampura Heritage Haveli in the walled city," Siddharth said.
More rickshaws will be added to the 'Heritage on Wheels' scheme in coming days.
Six ordinary rickshaw-pullers of the bustling Chandani Chowk have been selected to run the pilot six 'Heritage on Wheels' rickshaws.
"Since we will get our tourists from Dharmapura Heritage Haveli, we are hopeful that our income will stabilise. Moreover, we will also be treated with respect as we are a part such huge project that promotes cultural heritage of our Purani Dilli (Old Delhi)," said rickshaw-puller Shankar, while others nodded in unison.
Film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar, actress Hrishita Bhatt and cricketer Gautam Gambhir were present at the launch event.
