State level media certification, monitoring committee formed

The State Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for Assam has been formed in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, 2014.
The Committee has been constituted as per the direction of the Election Commission of India with Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner and Secretary Vijayendra as Chairman and Additional Secretary and Additional CEO Donald Gilfellon as Member Secretary, said an official statement here today.
The other members of the Monitoring Committee are one Observer of ECI, one expert co-opted by the Committee and ADG of Press Information Bureau (NER) Ashiku Lassa, it said.
The Committee will decide appeal from both District, Additional and Joint CEO Committees on Certification of advertisement and examine all cases of paid news on appeal against decision of District MCMC or cases that they might take up suo moto and direct the concerned Returning Officers to issue notices to the candidates.
