Statehood day celebrated for the first time in Gairsain

Uttarakhand statehood day was celebrated today for the first time in Gairsain fifteen years after the creation of the hill state, with State Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal calling for a collective effort to help the state realise its full development potential.
"Many dreams have been realised in the past 15 years. But many are yet to be fulfilled. We should make a collective endeavour to help our state realise its full development potential," Kunjwal said addressing a function held at Gairsain's Vidyalaya Maidan to mark Uttarakhand's 15th state foundation day.
Remembering the sacrifices made by statehood agitationists, the Assembly Speaker said Utarakhand was an outcome of their sacrifices.

Expressing the state government's commitment to build an Uttarakhand in accordance with the vision of those who fought for statehood, Kunjwal said the construction of a Vidhan Bhawan and secretariat buildings in Gairsain are a step towards fulfilling that commitment.
Gairsain is an emotive issue in Uttarakhand with the spearheads of the statehood agitation in favour of the remote hill town in Chamoli district being declared the permanent capital of the hill state.
Kunjwal also honoured statehood agitationists of the area on the occasion besides distributing housing insurance certificates to those who had lost their homes in 2013 calamity.
