: Coming to the support of the All India Motor Transport Congress who have threatened to go on nationwide strike from October one, PMK Leader S Ramadoss today said the toll plazas present on the highways should be streamlined and taken over by the government.
"Truckers who have threatened to go for a all India strike from October 1 is correct as toll plazas has not only affected them but also other road users", Ramadoss said in a statement.
Stating that the road tax was collected at the time of a vehicle during registration itself, Ramadoss who's party is a constituent of NDA, said, "a specified amount from the fuel prices also allocated for maintenance of highways. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government to make quality roads".
Rather, roads were laid by private agencies and such a practice needs to be changed, he said.
"The stand of PMK is that toll rates be completely removed. Since that cannot be made immediately, the government should take over all the toll plazas in the country", he said.
All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) representing 93 lakh truckers and 50 lakh buses and tourist operators, threatened to go an indefinite nationwide strike from October 1, alleging that the government has failed to address their issues, including removal of toll.
