Strike 1 led by Lt Gen K K Singh participated in the famous Battle of Basantar of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Chauhan said after a wreath-laying ceremony here.
Lt Gen Chauhan and officials of Mathura garrison paid homage to brave soldiers at the war memorial here to mark Basantar Day.
"The Battle of Basantar was one of the greatest tank battles ever fought by the elite Indian tank regiments - 17 Pune Horse and 4 Horse (Hodson's), as 46 of Pakistani Patton tanks were destroyed during it," Col GS IW said.
