Student drowns while taking selfies

A BTech student drowned in a pond near here today while allegedly taking selfies with a mobile phone, police said.
The incident took place in Majidpur village at around 11 am when the student, Srinivas Krishna Abhishek, went to the pond along with his friend.
The 20-year-old slipped and accidentally fell into the water body, Shamirpet Police Station Sub-Inspector A Naveen Reddy said.
"He was taking photos along with his friend on a mobile phone when the incident occurred. After seeing Abhishek drowning, his friend raised an alarm and some villagers rushed to save him. However, he could not be saved.

"His body has been recovered and sent to a state-run hospital, where a post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow," said Reddy, who is investigating the case.
Abhishek was a third year BTech student.
