Student sets himself on fire after girl rejects his proposal

A second-year polytechnic student attempted suicide by dousing himself with petrol and setting himself on fire at Pedagadili area under Arilova police station limits today after he was rejected by a girl.
According to police, 19-year-old R Bharat of Hanumakonda area in Warangal district of Telangana pursuing a diploma in chemical engineering at Government Institute of Chemical Engineering, took the step after a female student rejected his proposal.
Bharat went to the girl's house with a bottle of petrol and proposed to her again, but the girl reportedly warned him not to pester her, after which he doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire.
However, locals in the area saved him by pouring water on him and took him to the King George Hospital for treatment and counseling.
A police official said that a case has been registered and investigation is on.
