19-year-old Vijay Pratap Tiwari was shot at in his back by two motorcycle-borne persons in Khadra locality last evening, it said.
Police said that Vijy was rushed to the trauma center, where he died during treatment.
The motive behind the murder is not yet clear, it said.
Police said that an FIR had been lodged and efforts were being made to identify the assailants.
