Students can't attend normal classes at matriculation exam

Ongoing matriculation examination in Odisha has deprived thousands of high school students in Jajpur district of the study for last two weeks with their teachers not coming to schools.
The situation is same in almost all the schools irrespective of whether matriculation examination centres are held there or not.
As a result, over 60,000 students belonging to 463 high schools in ten blocks and two urban bodies across the district are enjoying undeclared holiday since February 23.
"We went to the school on February 24, a day before the commencement of Matriculation examination, and on the exam day. We found the teaching staff absent in the school. After waiting for some time we left the school. Since then we are not attending classes", said Pinky, a class ninth student of a high school.

When contacted, district Collector of Jajpur, Anil Kumar Samal said, "It is but natural to suspend the classes in schools where the Matriculation examination centre is held due to lack of space. But it can not be justified in case of other schools", he said adding he would look into the matter and take appropriate action.
