Subroto Bagchi to head Odisha Skill Development Authority

Mindtree co-founder Subroto Bagchi will help Odisha government set up a unified body for overseeing skill development programmes in the state.
Bagchi will be given the rank of cabinet minister and assume office on May 1, 2016. He will report to the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik.
"Naveen Patnaik has invited co-founder of Mindtree and well-known IT entrepreneur, Subroto Bagchi to set up a unified body to guide, implement and oversee all skill development programmes in the State," a statement today said.
He will be given all the support necessary to make a difference to the youth of the state, it added.
"I am deeply humbled and honoured to serve my motherland. This is the State that nourished me. Now it is time to give back," Bagchi said.
Bagchi will draw a salary of Rs 1 per year for his services to the state.
He will begin his work by visiting all the 30 districts of the state to get a first-hand understanding of the initiatives on the ground and submit his recommendations, based on which a detailed program will be worked out, the statement added.
Odisha Skill Development Authority will unify the initiatives on the ground and create momentum for youth of the state to receive skill training in a professional manner.
"The entire Mindtree family is very proud and excited that Subroto is going to serve a hugely important initiative. He has the unique capability to drive large scale change and we wish him the very best," Mindtree Executive Chairman Krishnakumar said.
