Mizoram Governor Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma (retd) appealed to the people to support the Centre's move of demonetising Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes to do away with counterfeit currency and black money.
By deciding to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes, the Centre did the right thing to cleanse the country of black money and also reform the economy, Sharma said according to an official statement here last evening.
He appealed to the people to be patient and cooperate with the government in its endeavour to bring economic reforms to benefit common people.
The Governor said the state government is making concerted efforts to mitigate people's sufferings by asking the RBI to expeditiously send the new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes to the state.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla called on Sharma yesterday at the Raj Bhavan. Raj Bhavan officials described the one-hour meeting between Sharma and Lal Thanhawla as 'routine'.
