Public broadcaster Prasar Bharti today decided that Suresh Panda, Member (Personnel) would be the acting Chief Executive Officer after the present CEO Jawhar Sircar leaves the organisation.
Sircar, who is scheduled to retire in February next year, had earlier written to Information and Broadcasting Ministry stating that he wants to leave Prasar Bharati by November 4.
The decision about the acting CEO was taken at the board meeting of Prasar Bharati, which runs Doordarshan and All India Radio.
"One of the key decisions in the meeting today is that the board has approved a proposal for Panda to work as acting CEO," sources said.
Sources, however, said the board's decision would require the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's nod.
Panda, a 1981 batch Indian Administrative Officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadre has been serving Prasar Bharati since March 2015 as Member (personnel).
Prior to that, he was special secretary and financial adviser at the ministry of Home affairs.
In the meeting, the board also sought that the implementation of the slot sale policy for Doordarshan be expedited, the sources said.
The Prasar Bharati has decided to auction the prime time slot, between 7-11 pm, on its national channel as per a new policy under which producers will provide content in return for a share in the advertising revenue.
