Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar and star archer Deepika Kumari will be named goodwill ambassadors of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games at a promotional event to be held here on March 18.
Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC) president Kim Youngsoo will announce Sushil and Deepika's name at the New Delhi Roadshow of the 2014 Games, the last such promotional event ahead of the continental multi-sporting showpiece to be held in Incheon in Korea from September 19 to October 4.
The New Delhi event is the sixth and last roadshow after Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Singapore, Hanoi (Vietnam) and (Guangzhou) China. The roadshow was to be held last year but had to be deferred as the Indian Olympic Association was under suspension then.
Besides a host of the country's sportstpersons, the event will be attended by officials from Korea and India, including sports ministry officials.
"IAGOC President and Incheon Games organising committee officials, officials of Korean embassy, IOA and sports ministry officials, besides sportspersons, will take part in the event," IOA joint secretary Rakesh Gupta told PTI.
"The IAGOC asked the IOA to nominate a male and a female athlete to be named as goodwill ambassadors of the Incheon Asian Games. We have named Sushil Kumar and Deepika Kumari. The IAGOC will announce their names on March 18 during the roadshow. We are also inviting other sportspersons, mostly Delhi based for the event," he said.
Gupta said that the IOA will also sent invitation to the Sports Minister Jitendra Singh, Sports Secretary and top officials of the Sports Authority of India.
