The Pro Wrestling League (PWL) organisers today sought to clarify the two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar's withdrawal from the inaugural edition of the tournament, saying that as he "wasn't feeling fit enough to fight".
A member of PWL Governing Council said that when the auction took place,
Sushil was very much in contention to
play.
"Sushil was in full content to play the league hence he was part of the auction," Rashmi said while addressing the media here.
"When he came from Georgia, we assume he backed off because he wasn't feeling fit enough to fight," she added.
Sushil was bought by the UP Warriors for Rs. 38.20 lakh at the auction as the icon player for the team and was reportedly offered another Rs. 11 lakh later as a token amount.
His pull out from the League prompted speculations ranging from him being miffed with the way he was treated when the league was announced to him having fitness concerns. Besides, there were also talks about Sushil's father-in-law and coach Satpal Singh advising him against participating in PWL, keeping in mind the preparations for the Rio Olympics next year.
