Lok Sabha's BJP opposition leader Sushma Swaraj flagged-off the much awaited Bhopal-Bina-Bhopal train along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today, from the Bhopal railway station's newly constructed drive-in platform.
Thanking Union Railway Minister Pavan Kumar Bansal and former railway minister and present West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for introducing the Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train facility in the region, she said that efforts would be made to extend it upto Hoshangabad and Itarsi.
She said that the survey for four new rail lines will be conducted soon, which included Guna-Aron-Basoda, Sagar-Chhatarpur-Bhopal-Jabalpur, Udaipura-Sagar and Indore-Budhni-Jabalpur routes.
A traction alternator plant for locomotives will be set up in Vidisha and a bogie repair project will be established in Misrod, near here, as announced in the rail budget, she said.
MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that priority should be given to states which lag behind in railway facilities and the provision that the state should provide half the cost of new railway lines should be removed.
Later, Swaraj travelled in the train upto Vidisha to meet people of her constituency.
