"The animal meat was being transported in an auto from Wada to Bhiwandi. The police patrol team stopped the vehicle in the early hours near Bhiwandi on suspicion," said police.
Upon checking the vehicle it was found that the driver and another passenger were carrying the meat suspected to be beef in gunny bags of 50 kgs each.
They simply told the police, when questioned, that it was animal meat. Offences under relevant sections of IPC and also Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act were registered, police said.
