Suspended IPS officer made IGP, Internal Security

Alok Kumar, a senior IPS officer who was suspended in connection with an alleged lottery scam, has been shifted to the post of IGP, Internal Security Division, in the city.
Kumar, Inspector General of Police and Additional Commissioner of Police, West Bengaluru (presently under suspension), is shifted to the vacant post of Inspector General of Police, Internal Security Division, Bengaluru, with immediate effect, a government notification said.
Kumar, suspended on May 23, is personally known to Pari Rajan, alleged kingpin in the scam, and allegedly had telephonic conversations and meetings with him.
Karnataka government had handed over the case to CBI for investigation after Opposition BJP and JDS mounted pressure seeking Central probe.

Government today also announced the transfer of C H Pratap Reddy, IGP, Criminal Investigation Department, Bengaluru, to the post of IGP & Additional Commissioner of Police, West Bengaluru, which was earlier held by Kumar.
Kumar was suspended pending further investigation and institution of disciplinary proceedings against him.
He had an "illegal" contact with Rajan, and he not only helped him, but also interfered in the investigation process, the suspension order had said.
Admitting that he knew Rajan, Kumar had earlier denied his involvement of any kind in the case and demanded a fair investigation.
