According to SP West Harishchandra, the accused Rakesh Sachan, a jawan in the Provincial Armed Constabulary was on a visit to his relative's house under Barra station here yesterday.
Sachan drank alcohol last night and then sat in a shop, where the victim was shopping along with her family.
The accused eve-teased the girl, but was caught and scolded by her parents, police said.
Some time later, he lured her behind the shop with a toffee and attempted to rape her. The victim started crying which attracted the attention of her parents and other bystanders, they said.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by parents of the victim, a case was registered and the accused was arrested, police said.
The jawan was under suspenion from service but the PAC officials have been informed about the incident, they said.
