The government today said the Suvarnrekha multi-purpose irrigation project will be reviewed and completed in a time-bound manner.
A press release here said that Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharthi and Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das met in Ranchi today and discussed the details of issues related with irrigation, flood control and pollution control in River Ganga and its tributaries in Jharkhand.
It was decided in the meeting that the Suvarnrekha project will be reviewed and completed in a time-bound manner, the release said, adding that the Centre will give full support and will allocate required funds for the purpose.
The state will send the remedial plan for embankment cutting by river Ganga in the state to the Union Water Resources Ministry and the same will be taken up in the Ministries flood control programme.
The Union Minister also assured that a team of National Institute of Hydrology will be sent for studying the adverse effects of arsenic in the reverse flowing in the state and appropriate steps will be taken after its report.
The release also said that Centre will take steps to make the Damodar River in the state pollution-free which has become highly-polluted as the effluents of steel and coal industries have put a severe threat on its existence.
