A youth hailing from the Rajouri district died of swine flu at a hospital here, marking the third such death in this region in the last two months, officials said today.
Rayat Mushtaq, 24, died at the Government Medical College and Hospital on September 29 after undergoing treatment at a special ward meant for patients with H1N1 symptoms, officials said.
His 'positive' test report, however, reached the hospital only yesterday, they said.
The test report confirmed that the youth, who was worked at a private security agency in Mumbai, fell to swine flu, the officials said.
Mushtaq had fallen sick in Mumbai and was brought to the hospital here by his family in the last week of September, they said.
He was the third person to die of swine flu in the Jammu region in the past two months.
A 43-year-old woman died of the deadly disease on August 25 while a 50-year-old from the Ramban district passed away on September 10.
An official said that a total of 73 persons were screened for H1N1 since July this year and only 10 of them tested positive. Of them, three died while two are still undergoing treatment, he added.
About dengue, the official said a total of 1,314 patients were screened for the disease during the past four months. Of them, 248, including 87 children and 57 women tested positive while the report of 310 patients is awaited.
The Jammu district reported 221 cases of dengue followed by Kathua (six), Rajouri and Doda (five each), Samba and Udhampur (four) and Poonch, Kishtwar and Kashmir (one each), they added.
