The incident occurred yesterday when the vehicle was on its way to Delhi. As it reached near Akbarpur village under Chhata Kotwali, the wirings of the vehicle caught fire.
The panic-stricken driver and cleaner managed to escape before the tanker went up in flames bringing traffic to a standstill.
Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control, Chief Fire Officer Deepak Sharma.
An advisory has been issued to refineries and bottling plants for maintaining required standards, he said.
