Authorities today ordered an enquiry into the damage in the tarpaulin over the shrine of make-shift Ram temple at the disputed Ram Janambhoomi Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya.
The shrine is situated in a highly secure area heavily guarded by a posse of security forces.
Despite the high security, the tarpaulin covering the upper part of the shrine was found damaged.
The receiver of the disputed area and Faizabad Divisional Commissioner Vishal Chauhan issued a notice to Public Works Department, responsible for the installation and maintenance of tarpaulin over the structure of the make-shift temple, to conduct an enquiry into the damage.
While the Hindu sect Nirmohi Akhara raised doubts over the development, the Muslim side apprehended a conspiracy behind the damage.
"This tarpaulin was replaced three months back after the Supreme Court's order. In the past years, tarpaulin never got damaged, and the minimum age of tarpaulin is of three years and this tarpaulin that was fire-proof and water-proof and said to be of best quality. How it got damaged is matter of enquiry," said Ranjeet Laal Sinha, counsel of Nirmohi akhara from Hindu side.
"There may be some conspiracy behind the damage. They are using inferior quality of material so that the demand for permanent structure over the disputed shrine may be raised before the Supreme Court which is the hidden agenda of VHP," Khaliq Ahmad Khan, petitioner from the Muslim side in the dispute case, said.
