The government has constituted a task force for e-governance initiatives in the shipping and road transport sectors and will give initial report within a month, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said today.
The task force, which includes former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai would be headed by the minister himself.
"We are working to convert e-governance into good governance, for that we are looking for e-solutions, e-recommendations and we have assigned the job to Mohandas Pai," Gadkari told reporters here.
The Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping said that the preliminary report is expected in month's time.
"They are studying the shipping and road transport sectors and how to make work more effective and I hope that he (Pai) will submit the preliminary report in a month's time and we will implement it accordingly," Gadkari said.
The task force will work on various strategies and help to integrate latest technology with the road transport, highways and shipping sectors.
Other members of the task force include former IT secretary for Andhra Pradesh Sanjay Jaju, partner at Ekam Consulting Abhijit Purushottam Desai, Disha Consultants director Prashant Pole and Girish Srivastava, a policy and strategy consultant.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Shipping is working at improving the efficiency of existing ports in the country.
When asked about the appointment of chief for shipping PSUs, Shipping Secretary Rajive Kumar said: "There is still time."
There are reports indicating that the government wants to recruit the next chairman of the Cochin Shipyard and Shipping Corporation of India through the search-cum-selection committee.
