Tata Trusts today entered into a partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government to launch development programmes across 264 villages in the state's Vijayawada region.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tata Trusts and the government of Andhra Pradesh to work towards community empowerment and improve the overall quality of living through an integrated multi-thematic approach in the region, Tata Trusts said in a statement.
The programme intends to implement interventions in the thematic areas of bamboo cultivation, fisheries, nutrition and fortification, along with micro planning and village development based on the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY), it added.
Commenting on the partnership, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu said: "This is the first time such a huge number of villages are being adopted. This will set an example in the country as it will be mentored by Ratan Tata."
The government will work with Tata Trusts in many areas such as agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, backward classes welfare, consumer affairs food and civil supplies, environment, health, medical and family welfare among others he added.
Sharing its plans, Tata Trusts Executive Trustee R Venkataramanan said: "We will support the state and administrative bodies in implementation of the multi-thematic development plans in 264 villages in the Vijayawada constituency post the micro planning process."
The two partners plan to develop model villages on the lines of the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana with innovation and technology as key components, with a broad framework of enhancing social security and infrastructure development through implementation of central and state-level schemes, improved drinking water and sanitation systems and several livelihood enhancement programmes, he said.
