A schoolteacher was today booked for molestation after he allegedly proposed to a Class 10 girl student, police said.
The teacher, employed in a convent school here, was assaulted by the girl's parents after she narrated the incident to them, a police official said, adding the accused is absconding.
He proposed to the minor girl on the first day of the new academic year and threatened to fail her in exams if she spurned his proposal, according to a complaint filed by the victim's mother.
The teacher has been booked under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and also the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, said Shweta Belhekar, sub-inspector at the Indira Nagar police station.
A search is on for the teacher, she added.
