Police said the girl had gone to the teacher's house for tuitions last evening when she was allegedly raped.
The girl on her return confided in her parents, who then filed a complaint with the local police. The teacher was arrested last night itself.
The teacher, who is aged about 42 years, hails from Bongoan in North 24 Parganas district and stayed in a rented house here, the police said.
He was produced produced before the Jalpaiguri district court today and was sent to 14-day jail custody.
