President Pranab Mukherjee today said teachers are the most important people who help in nation building.
Inaugurating the first-ever 'in-residence' programme for teachers at the Rashtrapti Bhavan here, Mukherjee said Indian tradition talk about 'Guru-Shishya Parampara' as he emphasised that teachers are the "most important factor in nation building."
Twelve award winning school teachers will be living in the Presidential Estate for few days and will not only interact amongst themselves but also with experts and academicians.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said the participating teachers should strive continuously for achieving higher goals and that, for them, sky is the limit.
Mukherjee said he had spent four decades of his public life within a stone's throw of the Rashtrapati Bhavan building but had been unaware of life here and hence decided that it must be open to the people.
Secretary to the President Omita Paul said the role of teachers in education is paramount.
"They provide a nurturing environment for students at all times and have a catalyzing influence on their lives," she said.
Similar programmes have earlier been conducted for writers, artists, grass root innovators, NIT students and inspired teachers.
