The prime accused in the murder of a young woman IT professional today moved a court here seeking bail claiming that he was not involved in the crime.
The bail petition filed by the accused, P Ram Kumar, at the Sessions Court, through his counsel, said he was in no way connected to the murder and claimed that he was innocent.
The petition claimed that police had foisted the case on Ram Kumar who sought bail asserting that he would not tamper with evidence. It also said he would abide by any condition that may be imposed by court and furnish sureties.
Ram Kumar allegedly murdered the 24-year-old IT professional Swathi in broad daylight on June 24 at Nungambakkam railway station here and later went absconding.
He was arrested from his house in Meenakshipuram near Shencottah in Tirunelveli district on July 1. When police went to arrest him, he allegedly used a knife and slashed his neck to evade arrest. However, this has been disputed in the bail petition.
He was taken to Tirunelveli Medical College hospital and treated for his wounds and later brought here and admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital on July 3.
A team of doctors have been monitoring his progress and they expressed satifaction over his condition following which he was lodged in the Puzhal central prison today, jail officials said.
