In a change of the theme of the Bollywood caper, which had featured the Big B and Ben Kingsley, the Bengali Teen Patti is quintessentially Kolkatan, as a crimer thriller starring the new Tolly heartthrob Ritwik and Puja Bose.
Unlike an intriguing card game which goes beyond control and leads to a tale of deceit and greed as in the Hindi Teenpatti, "Our film progresses with a death, thickening of the web of speculation and conspiracy," directors Rehana Parveen Jenny and Dipayan Mondal said.
While the Mumbai flick dealt with 3 Idiots actor Madhavan, besides legends Amitabh Bachchan and the 'Reel Gandhi', reigning Tollywood star and Mishawr Rawhasyo desert brigand Indranaeel Sengupta and Loveria-girl, southern bombshell Puja Bose are in the Bengali re-adaptation.
"This is a complete fresh concept, which also takes a peek at the metro's burgeoning real estate business and how two best friends get caught in the quagmire and a cross between arthouse and mainstream but there is no card game," they said.
"And the title may be a misnomer in literal sense but if you see the end there is a catch about the circumstances behind the death."
Nice to portray roles of so many shades in the span of three years, in all genres of films from Kaushikda (Ganguly) to Ringo (System), Srijit (Mukherjee) and now here, Happy that getting so much variegated roles here, I am okay to work with any director - new or seasoned like Buddhadevda (Dasgupta) if the script elevates me," Indraneil said when contacted.
"From Cross Connection, Herbert, Shabdo to this, I always wish to explore my own repertoire/ But I can't a be typical hero, I don't want to be," Ritwik said.
Produced by RDS Entertainment, Teen Patti will be released on March 28.
