Telecom operators today raised the issue of interference in mobile phone airwaves from Pakistan in border states and demanded that government ensure spectrum being put up for sale are free from this problem.
According to official sources, Idea, Aircel, Airtel and Reliance Communications are facing interferences in their 3G spectrum from Pakistan in J&K .
A similar problem has been reported in parts of Himachal Pradesh by Idea and RCom, in Punjab by Aircel, RCom and Tata Teleservices, in Gujarat by Idea and Vodafone and in Haryana by Vodafone.
Due to interference from Pakistan, phone calls become noisy and conversations can be heard across the border.
"Idea was the first one to launch 3G service in Jammu and Kashmir but due to interference from across border we have not been able to use our spectrum till date for services.
"DoT should ensure that such spectrum being put for auction is free from interference," an Idea Cellular representative told DoT officials at a pre-bid conference held ahead of auction in February.
Telecom operators Airtel, Aircel, Vodaphone and Reliance Communications supported Idea's points.
"I acknowledge your concern. There was no interference when auction was conducted in 2010. We have communicated this to concerned administration multiple times through right channels within government and are continuing to work on it," DoT Wireless Advisor RJS Kushwaha said.
India has raised interference with Pakistan repeatedly since 2011. Pakistan in response has denied any interference being caused by mobile antenna installed in its territory.
