Temple construction: HC direction to get instructions from

The Madras High Court today directed the government pleader to get instructions from authorities in the matter of construction of a temple in a place allocated for a park by the government in Perur Chettypalayam Panchayat of Coimbatore District.
The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R. Mahadevan, directed the government pleader to file a status report in this regard.
It was hearing a PIL filed by G.Pechimuthu, Executive, 'Tondamuthur Panchayat Union People Awareness Welfare Association' seeking a direction to stop the construction of a temple by some people in the reserved space for the park.
The petitioner referred to the order passed by the High Court in the above matter last year directing the District Collector, Coimbatore to look into the matter.
The collector had directed the Block Development officer to comply with the court order and directed that the reserved place be maintained as public park, the petitioner said.
The petitioner said the collector had also referred to a Supreme Court order which directed that no unauthorized construction of any religious institution namely temple, church, mosque or gurudwara etc shall be permitted on public street/public space.
The petitioner alleged that the officials were not serious about orders of the High Court or Supreme Court.
