The problem arose as the panchayat administration allotted a piece land for construction of a community hall and the same site was converted into a Mosque, officials said.
The Tahsildhar of Alangudi Venkatachalam and police had held talks with both communities on Sept 29 where it was decided that the site would be used as a Community hall ,as it was in the Temple car street, and
Meanwhile violating the agreement, more than 200 persons gathered at the venue and offered prayers. Locals then blocked road traffic in protest
Police said Venkatachalam and an Inspector held talks with both groups and persuaded members of the minority communkity to leave the site as agreed earlier.
