The incident occurred this afternoon when allegedly stones were hurled from a religious place on the procession of the other community's members on Utraula road after passing through Chowk area here, police said.
Following which members of the other community also indulged in violence and set afire a shop, they said.
Meanwhile, members of both the communities also clashed and hurled stones on each other at Ekta tri-section in Chowk area, police said.
They even chased away the Circle officer and the City magistrate, who went there to control the situation with police.
Efforts are on to bring the situation under control, police added.
