TERI University may start doctoral programme at its upcoming campuses in Guwahati and Hyderabad in near future, Vice Chancellor Leena Srivastava said today.
"In both these places, we can start PhD programme fairly quickly using existing institutions and developing partnership with them," Srivastava said on the sidelines of the 8th convocation of the varsity.
The Hyderabad campus of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) University will focus on renewable energy while the Guwahati campus will be devoted to biotechnology, sustainable resources and agriculture, watershed management and related activities, she said.
Regarding infrastructure work at the two campuses, she said basic infrastructure in Guwahati is likely to be in place by early 2018 while in case of Hyderabad, it may take a little longer.
TERI is also in talks with the government of Karnataka for setting up a campus there but the proposal is stuck up due to unavailability of land, she added.
TERI University, a centre for research in environment and sustainability, awarded degrees to 185 post graduates and 16 doctoral students during the convocation ceremony, said Rajiv Seth, Pro-VC of the university.
Three international personalities in the field of environment and sustainable development -- Prof. Shigeo Katsu, Assaad Wajdi Razzouk and Dr. Peter Taalas -- were awarded PhD degrees, honoris causa, he added.
